UNLV Football Player Ben Christman Dies at 21 — Here's What We Know





A student-athlete who recently transferred has died, the university confirmed on its official website, leaving the campus community mourning the loss.

Ben Christman, a student from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and member of the football team, was found lifeless in an off-campus apartment on Tuesday morning, February 11, according to the UNLV Rebels website.

Christman had recently transferred to UNLV, and his family has been notified. The athletic department has notified the football team, and support services are available to those affected.

UNLV President Keith E. Whitfield expressed deep sorrow, "There is little that can be said to lessen the pain of suddenly losing a member of our university family at such a young age, and my heart breaks for all who knew and loved him."

Director of Athletics Erick Harper described Christman's passing as heartbreaking and emphasized that he had already made a meaningful impact on his teammates and coaches.

Head Football Coach Dan Mullen shared that Christman quickly earned the respect and admiration of his teammates, adding that he was an easy choice for the team's Leadership Committee. "Ben made the world a better place and he will be missed," Mullen said.

At this time, no further details about the circumstances surrounding his death have been provided. The Clark County Coroner's Office will determine and release the cause of death at a later time.
